Manifesto

Opera Publica is a comprehensive, radical disciplinary practice serving on the multiple design scales of the greater territorial project, from architectural locality to urban design, from ecological landscape to environmental and infrastructural planning, providing to the sustenance of public space and vicinity in the city, conjugating policy and idiosyncrasy while contributing collective armatures for the coexistence of our communities and the advancing of the contemporary urban habitat.

Our practice builds technical and social resolutions through focused, adaptive design tools to drive public interest challenges and individual demands towards the heterogeneous complex of increasing urbanity and natural coalition. Driven to promote fertile civic engagement our design action propels new scenarios for environmental and social impact, articulating sustainable community development of cities and territories with transformative, fruitful and affordable realization.

Public practice calls for the collaborative and participatory efforts bringing into the equation the inexorable relationship to life: a further articulation between disciplinary and external, heteronomous materials, its intermingling craft as the new art of the public work.

Activating those territories both in their vertical affiliations, between society and the physical environment, and horizontally between the diverse micro-territories that comprise it, Opera Publica reaches design specificity and fine-grained proximity required for refinement, exhaustive and intimate depiction, preventing it from been smoothed over, averaged out with coarse-grained, lower-resolution abstract models or purposes.

We do not seek new sterile modern synthesis nor mere local building dialects, instead we are absorbed in growing our own twinkled flickering construction, a hyper-articulate expression of inside-out reveries, structures, stories, landscapes, and people. Opera Publica and its architecture undertake the shock of the Other within this intense, overwhelming Real with a bare Latin American self (the marvelous real, a magical realism, etc).

Our work traverses this critical public/intimate breach, short-circuiting between the two apparently distant aspects: the chumminess, intimate convolution of the “opera” joining the “public” ingenuousness, to reveal the Real -the mysterious something of the ordinary object, where the sublime dimension shines through it.
